So, best selling author, Jeanine Cummings, author of Outside Boy and A Rip in Heaven, and I are teaming up to experiment with how a fictional book is written by writing a novel via twitter. We are writing the sentences 140 characters at a time. Today, some people tried to name it a Twook (Twitter + Book) and I proposed Twiction (for twitter and, well, you get the point). Feel free to follow the novel as it unfolds. This will probably take some years to finish but it’s well worth the real-time innovation in how creative works get written. It’s been super fun. I hope more creative collaboration spreads. Here is what we have so far after a day summarized below.

Amina awoke to the hot Moroccan sun; piercing her veil. She rubbed her eyes- sealed by pus her mom called the Devil’s kiss. Groping blindly along the edge of the bed, her fingers froze against an unfamiliar shape. Her panic was instant. She remembered.

She sat up lithely, silently, and stretched her toes toward the tile floor. She wondered if she’d ever see those Argan trees again.

As she stood, her blonde lover, tugged on her veil; it slipped slowly off her head revealing her long locks of Moroccan hair.

“Amina,” he hummed her name, his voice still humid with sleep. The warmth of his accent was like a languid American lulluby. Easy.
